5 on the 5th | january 2014

I've been doing this 5 on the 5th project for long enough now that the girls know it's picture day when they take a peek at the calendar and see what the date is. Victoria went to so far as to add it to the pocket Filofax she received for Christmas and Isabella even came downstairs yesterday evening and said, "There are some pretty interesting things going on upstairs {they were playing together in Victoria's room} if you want to take some more photos."

Aaaah.

And now that they have their own mini iPads, I'm hoping they'll be a big part of this project this year right along beside me. Snapping away.

Some months, our oldest contributes a photo when I ask {he lives in Charleston} and sometimes he doesn't and I try to be okay with that.

What is 5 on the 5th?

5 on the 5th is a project where I capture our family's extraordinarily ordinary everyday moments on the 5th day of each month.

I use my iPhone to take my photos and post to Instagram throughout the day, tagging the photos with #5onthe5th. If you do a search, you'll see that there were quite a few IG'ers documenting their everyday moments right along with me this January 5th.

I then post our 5 photos here on the blog, but most people don't. I just like to because then I have a permanent record of what I've documented.

Why should you take on another photo project?

If you happen to be thinking, as I often do, that time is precious and you just don't know that you can add another to do item to your list, I perfectly understand. But let me share this, as I look back on all our 5 on the 5th blog posts I see that I've captured moments that I had already forgotten about, that would have been lost if not for the 10 seconds it took me to snap a quick photo.

January 2014

I don't usually do a theme for our 5 photos, but after taking my first photo, I thought "Why not?" Here are shots of our 5 sets of hands.

1  |  Weekends usually means that we make a big, homemade breakfast of biscuits, pancakes, crepes, waffles or something else equally tasty. Today we just had fresh strawberries with our cereal and the girls had theirs with cinnamon toast.

2  | During the busy seasons in the shop, I tend to work a bit on Sunday just to get ahead. I hate feeling overwhelmed on Monday's and just an hour or two can make a huge difference. Thankful for the love bestowed upon my little work-from-home business!

3  |  The switch-up, Victoria is on her mini iPad and buried in a mountain of toys playing on the rug.

4  | Usually Victoria is the one playing with toys, but every now and then Isabella enjoys some quiet time with toys from her younger years. She's growing up.

5 | After a gentle nudge, or two, Zach is rounding out this month sharing a photo as well. I remember these sweet little hands so well. How he held a pencil and how he would sometimes let me hold his hand even when he didn't want me to.

If you're new to the blog and want to know more about 5 on the 5th, read this blog post. If you post about your own #5onthe5th photos, leave a comment so I can drop by for a visit!

  1. I had fun participating this month, Monika, and I love that you did a theme!! Might have to try that next month. I must say, sometimes it really does motivate me to do things, just so I'll have pictures to post! LOL! Thanks for the idea and for sharing your life with us! :)

    1. But there's nothing wrong with taking a pic of your view from the couch, or the chaise lounge or wherever else it is that you're chilling. That's part of life, too, and one day you might say, "Remember when we still had this couch?"

I'm really happy that you're documenting along with me, makes me smile, and I love seeing your photos!

    1. How will anyone know that the photos you take today aren't from the 5th? Take 5 and then you're all set to take on 2014 with a burst of crafty energy. I agree, some years are tougher than others {I've had a few} but I'm glad you're here following along on my adventures!
