Leave a comment with your best spring cleaning tip, suggestion, link...anything really...and I'll randomly draw a name for a giveaway when I resurface from catching all the dust bunnies.
I love Malin/malwa's comment!!! hahaha But seriously, who can afford that luxury? My suggestion is when starting in one room clean in a clockwise direction, systematically cleaning everything along the way. Do you know what I mean? The ceiling and floor would be the last things to wash. Good Luck!
Do the hardest job first to get it out of the way so you will be on the downhill slide after that. Make your list and check things off. Power clean... Give yourself X amount of time to spend on a job then see how much you can accomplish in that time. Break your goals down into realistic daily goals. Should I keep going??....I have a million ways I trick myself into accomplishing the most I can :). Have fun; you have a great sense of accomplishment when you are done!!
When I start spring clean I do room by room and at least I clean the floor all together so I can be sure that all is fine. Due tis I listen to my fave music and sing.
Good luck as I know sometimes it can be a daunting task. When I feel the mood to do this I put on some fun music to make it more fun and set a timer for both cleaning and my break.
I always start with one room, usually the least used room. I do things backwards. When I'm done, I shut the door and its a sense of accomplishment. Then I move onto the next room. And the first thing I do is start by throwing away all the noticeable garbage. In order: Garbage Organize Dust Walls Vacuum
Oh and I usually keep a garbage pile, donation pile, and not sure/keep pile when I start going through the bigger stuff or the stuff that doesn't have a "home" yet.
I have a Norwex polishing cloth and it's awesome for doing windows and mirrors. I just wash them first with water and dish soap and then polish them with the cloth. Spotless and shiny every time! Good luck with your cleaning - come back soon !
Organizing your closet is the first step to organizing the rest of your home. Get rid of unused clothes and accessories, and organize the rest by how you get dressed in the morning and by color. Your closet will look appealing, and your everyday routine will be easier. :)
My best tip is to make a fun playlist on your phone/iPod, put on your headphones and just go for it :) Or download a book, perhaps a criminal novel, then you don't ever wanna stop cleaning :P
Make a playlist OR find a really great podcast (I love Joy the Baker and Jillian Michaels) - you'll be so engrossed in listening you won't feel the pain of cleaning. Try it! ALSO>>plan a reward for your hard work, something that is a great incentive. For me it's flowers or Trader Joe's dark chocolate covered caramels or a nice Pinot Noir. Good luck! We're all rooting for ya! xox renee in minneapolis
I don't know if it's a "tip" per se, but... Celia Cruz! I have a spotify playlist that's full of Celia Cruz, Poncho Sanchez... lots of upbeat salsa. It's seriously the ONLY way I can keep cleaning. When I was a kid trying to sleep in on Saturday morning, my mom would BLAST this kind of music while she cleaned. If I dared get up and try to turn it down, I was put to work. :) Hated it growing up, but mom was right... it's totally helpful!
My grandma had me wash the windows with Windex and NEWSPAPER instead of paper towel. It prevents streaks! Good luck. When you're done, will you come out my way to do some spring cleaning for me? Ali Smith
Get someone else to do it...? :)

ReplyDeleteMy tip: make a list of each task, even the small ones. Somehow seeing each thing checked off is motivating to keep going. Good luck!

don't put it down, put it away! if I could only practice what I preach, my house would be tidy.
ReplyDeleteUse a pillow case to clean fan blades, just slip it on the blade, wipe off dust, then throw the case in the wash.

ReplyDeleteI just learned this tip from my mom last week. A pumice stone will get off all those hard water stains in your toilet. But use gloves!
ReplyDeleteUse a squeegee aftershowering to keep the tile clean. But the very best tip is to marry a man who likes to do housework!!

When you're done, will you come out my way to do some spring cleaning for me?
