planning & plans for 2012

I love, love, love getting a new calendar. The methodical routine of transferring memorable dates, important notes and plans for the year makes me happy. Silly, right?

I lucked out in finding this calendar at a local salvage store for just $2.00...last year I paid $15 at an office supply store. Keeping it simple, I added several strips of washi tape, stitched on the colored shipping tag on which I journaled:
i like to:
make messes
get dirtly
try new things
start over
&
be creative

I didn't want too many layers or embellishments on the cover as I plan to take this with me everywhere. I'm tired of being out {at the school, at the Doctor's office or at my Mom's house} and not knowing what's ahead and if I can actually make an appointment for that day. Yes, I know I can use the handy dandy calendar app on my iPhone, but I much prefer paper. I may have to try both, but for now, I'm sticking with paper only.

The inside front page that covers up the marketing message also shows how I added tabs for each month and for the month-at-a-glance calendar pages in the back.

All the rub-ons I'm using were sent to me by my friend, Kate, who is also a Close To My Heart rep. Lovin' the quality of the rub-ons, wow, plus they're having a great promotion going on right now...check it out. For each birthday or holiday, I'm adding a small rub-on. Why hoard all my cute stuff, I need to use it and let it surprise me and make me smile as I turn the pages.

  1. I'm definitely a paper girl. Do you think my blog name has anything to do with that? ;) I love paper for wrapping, writing on, decorating, etc. I need a new calendar too. I always get cute ones at Borders but our went out of business just a few weeks ago. Guess I need to figure that out! www.paperstarfish.prettyposies.com

  2. Well, I love paper calendars; but this coming year my 2012 word is Simplicity. I am going to try really hard to use my smartphone, the IPhone and its capabilities. I actually already bought a calendar but, I was tired of the clutter in my purse and started using my IPhone. I love it! Its simple, reminds me and .... I have cut out the clutter! I am even sending things via email/appointments from my work email to my personal phone so that everything is in one place! But, your calendar is adorable with the Washi Tape! So cute and tempting! I love your blog!

  3. I am soooo a paper girl. Love writing things down and making lists.

I should really plan out my blog postings a little more, as you have. My posts are so random...what do I feel like posting today? That's ok, until I hit a patch where I feel like I don't have much going on, and then I don't post in forever. Anyways, just saying, love how you have it organized. :-)

  4. So fun to read the comments and hear what makes you tick! @Paige, kinda thought you would be a paper gal! @Love.Peace.Happiness. - may still try to do phone and paper calendar, but not sure yet. @Kim, random is good, too, keeps everyone guessing and coming back, right but thanks for the kind words!

  5. I do love paper, but with so much going on, I resort to my phone (it beeps me!)
But I do use a big daily calendar for work (for doodles, little things like that).
But my phone is a lifesaver and is always with me. I guess I do have a personal assistant now that I think about it.

I do love how you jazzed up your planner - so very cute. I'm itching to do mine too.

This year I've gone smaller so I can cart it around easier too.

  7. Monika, I love that you have so much planned, and like you I just adore filling in the calendar for a new year! I'm so glad you are still doing the 52 photos; I really want to spend much more time on photography next year; hope to join in!

  8. Your planner is awesome!
I've already bought a planner similar, but it didn't cross my mind to spiff (is that even a word!?) it up!! I'm going to see what I come up with!
Love how you have made plans for your blog. I'm still trying to find my niche....I'll get there one year!
I am doing the 365 project; a photo everyday!

  9. I'm the same as you- I need to write things in a paper calendar, or just make lots and lots of lists to keep track of everything I have going on. One of my new years resolutions is going to be creating a blogging plan to structure when I post, maybe similar to yours. Thanks for the inspirational post!

  10. Awww, you're so sweet, Monika! Thanks for the shout out, and I LOVE how you've used your rubons!! :) VERY cute idea. I've tried to cut down on paper lately, as well as the size of my purse/suitcase, so I use my phone for my calendar, tho I do have a birthday calender in my house. But I like that the phone chimes to remind me of my appts. Otherwise, I completely forget! LOL!

  11. I'm the same way! I usually just use a desk calendar hung on the wall but your adorable planner makes me want to make one too!

  12. I absolutely love your planner! I too am looking for one for myself! :) I am like you and like to have paper with me...instead of using my phone for the calendar. I am so glad I have found your blog...you have so many useful ideas and LOVE your OLW for 2012! :)

  15. Okay, Monika ... I caved and went back to a paper calendar! A sense of peace came over me and I LOVE it so much! It has a daily to do section; with a full 2 page calendar with LINES and it is wonderful! I am so glad I did it though; much happier writing everything down! Thank you for daily doses of creativity!!!
