please note | project may not be suitable for children of all ages as it may be a choking hazard
Wondering how you'll package all the little flower bits and twine for this Party Lei so it won't be a total mess before party time? I used glassine envelopes that have been folded over and adorned with a die cut bracket shape. I added my daughter's name with die cut letters and then created my own 3-layer flower embellishment - all made with some really fabulous cardstock from DiscountCardstock.com and highlighted by some Caribbean baker's twine from The Twinery. Discount Cardstock has a very nice heavyweight feel to it {it's awesome!} which makes it the perfect choice for this project...it will stand up to little hands and lots of wear and tear.
If you're wondering how I threaded twine through those teeny tiny holes I punched, here's my Top Secret weapon...26 gauge floral wire {can also be found at craft and big box chain stores}. See that little contraption? It's my needle. I tried an embroidery needle but the eye was too large to fit through smaller holes. This is cheap, easy and doable and makes all the difference in the world. Less frustration + more smiles = more crafting fun!
See, told ya!
I wanted to show you how I solved the problem of the punched cardstock flower shapes sliding around. Using Mandarin baker's twine for my flower lei, I made a knot before and after each flower petal. As you might see in this photo, some knots are tied closer to the petal while...
...in this photo, you can see that some of the knots are spaced farther apart.
Have fun this Summer making Party Lei's...whether it's a birthday party activity | party favor, a vacation bible school craft or a Summer keep-your-kids-busy quiet time project...it's all fun and your color combinations are endless when using The Twinery baker's twine and DiscountCardstock.com.
And, now for the prizes:
Colorful Bunch Sampler Pack ($20 retail value) from The Twinery
A paper sampler pack (a $20 retail value) from Discount Cardstock
