There are so many different design options for a Valentine's Day subway art print.
It can be cute.
It can be sexy.
It can be witty.
I went for the family love option!
It's not even in the shop yet because I wanted to ask your opinion...
What colors should I offer this in? Should the "&" and "4" be the same color as the text? I thought of adding a heart somewhere...is that lame? It's currently sized to 8x10 to make it more affordable, but would you be interested in 5x7 or 11x14, too?
To reward you for helping me to conduct some market research, just leave a comment with your opinion{s}. Each comment left earns you a chance to win your very own print. Giveaway ends on Saturday at Noon EST. Winner gets to choose the color of their choice.
I appreciate that so many readers are Etsy shop customers, too. I thank you so much!
I think this would be cute for a child's bedroom, the bathroom, the playroom, maybe even next to your favorite spot for reading bedtime stories. I'm putting one on the mantle in our family room {puppy central, DVD-watching area, art project arena - you get the idea}.
Now, if only I could decide what color to print for our family. Decisions, decisions.
i like the contrast of the & and the 4~and a heart would be OK too!
ReplyDeleteI think the & and the 4 should be the same color, but you should add a heart in there somewhere and make it a different color (pink or red). I also like the different sizes, especially the 11 x 14!
ReplyDeletesilly songs
ReplyDeleteI would love it in a moss green color.
I would love to see the subway art in a beige color myself or wheat with the &,4 in a red wine color.
ReplyDeleteBut this is just beautiful ;) I love these art posts.
I think you should offer it in Red and Pink definately. The & and $ should be a different color than the rest of the text and a heart would be cute! no lame. Maybe a heart in between open arms or something like that. I think 8 x 0 and 5 x 7 would be good sizes to work with because most people have those frames already! Looks so cute! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteI personally think the & 4 should be in a different color. You could put the & inside the heart or the 4 inside the heart!! :) I would love red as the background color, white and font color and use black for the & and 4. You could have a heart cut out at the top left hand corner which would be white. Just my personal opinion!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win one!
Great approach to the Valentine's art. The & and 4 really pop with the extra color, which adds a little visual interest. I agree with Lisa that the addition of a heart in the line open arms - or maybe thankful hearts - might open this up a little more. To me, they are acting as bookends and visually compressing the image. For sizes, go with standard frame sizes. (Haven't been shopping for any in ever so long, so I cannot help you with those.) I love the colors you shown this in, but it wouldn't fit in my house. Maybe offer a more neutral background color (Irish linen?) and different colors for the highlighted colors, one of which should be a deep shade of red (garnet or barn door). Love your work.
ReplyDeleteSince looking at the comment about the wheat color and a wine colored heart I LOVE that idea too and I think it would fit a lot of people decor, I know it would mine! So that is another great option!
ReplyDeletePrecious! Color options? Let's see...
ReplyDeleteCream background with chocolate, red and pink wording; cream colored & and 4
Another idea...
ReplyDeleteChocolate background with pink lettering; red & and 4
What about putting a dotted border around all of it? Regardless of the color, it sure would look cute!
ReplyDeleteYou could try a cream colored background, chocolate and red wording, pink & and 4, with pink dots border...
By the way, I LOVE that you chose to go with the FAMILY option for your subway art. Next to my God, my family is the most important part of my life!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your talents!
Love the & and 4 in a different color. I love almost anything in a chocolatey brown. I'm against a heart personally, but it looks like some people would love it so you can't go wrong.
ReplyDeleteVery very cute.
ReplyDeleteMy 2 cents. : ) I would keep the & and 4 the same color and move the line "thankful hearts" to the bottom. Then you could superimpose a red or pink heart under the word heart and that be the final thing that catches your eye on the poster.
Just a suggestion - it also looks way cute the way it is now! : )
Oh, and... 8x10 being more affordable is nice because then people could buy more from your shop and switch them out occasionally! ;0
ReplyDeletei think a heart would be cute, you could put one at the top in the center, not too big, and/or one at the bottom in the center, i think that would be cute.
ReplyDeleteI also prefer the text to all be the same color, i think right now the green looks a little out of place.
I do however love the fonts you've used, they look great together, and i know how hard it can be too include more then one font and make it flow, so good job with that!!

I like the big characters in a contrasting color, but think I would like it more if it were the same color as the main font. I like blues (all shades) and think a blue/white or blue/brown or even a blue/black would be fun to have out year around --- however, for February, regardless of what it is I always thing red and pink -- might be nice to have that option too.
ReplyDeleteVery cute design -- like it a lot!

You must have a pink/red (though I don't LOVE that combo!)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite color scheme is brown, turquoise and that lime green kind of color.
I like the & and 4 different colors ... though maybe just a darker color than the background? Outlined in the color of the font (white)?
I bet you will get takers for different sizes too.
OOOHH, a color I would love is purple!
Hey! I think the & 4 should be different from the text.
ReplyDeleteColor combinations that I think would be good are:
Black, red, & white
Chocolate brown & pink
Black & hot pink & lime green
I also like what you have done already.
Thanks!
here are my thoughts:
ReplyDelete- i would like a red background... with either aqua or purple or pink accents
- id prefer something like "loyalty and laughs" rather than guiding light - thats just me :)
- i do like highlighting the & and the 4 in another color.
- as far as size - its seems all the subway art im seeing lately is portrait.. i might like a landscape 5x7??
- also - what about a soft lemon yellow with red accents! that i would do in a 11x14 in my kitchen right over my family rules :))
Monika - I LOVE this. Definitely like the contrasting 4 and &. I personally am a huge red fan. Also yellow - hey maybe yellow with red accents???
ReplyDeleteI like the 8x10 size and the 5x7 sounds nice too (when the space for display is small).
I think it would be cute in pink - I think the & and 4 should be different colors than the rest of print. I also think a heart would be cute.
ReplyDeleteI like the & and 4 in different fonts also. I like how they stand out. As for colours, I think having a wide selection would be good. For Valentine's Day, red, pink and white are obvious. But I think offering it in blue, green, yellow would be great. Dana
ReplyDeleteI think this is absolutely adorable. I love how the & and 4 pop. I love the idea of assorted sizes too...a little something for everyone's budget. I think you should have it in the red and pink for V-day...also I think having it with a black background using red and pink on the &, 4 and a possible heart would be super cute as well!
ReplyDeleteI like that the & and 4 stand out. If you leave the heart out is isn't as valenine-y and can be used the rest of the year also. Plus, hearts kinda drive me crazy.
ReplyDeleteI adore this print, since it's for V-Day, I personally would make it in a taupe with eggplant tones to match my home decor and not make it look to "pastelly."
ReplyDeleteLove your stuff!
Tanja
I love the colours as is, except I would put the "&" and the "4" in red and put one red heart in there somewhere. Maybe at the very end, instead of the full stop (period, whatever you call it.)
ReplyDeleteThe aqua + white + red will look so amazing.
I would like the & and 4 in white with a heart somewhere in red :) would love a 5x7 option as well! :)
ReplyDeleteI love it just like you've done it, but when it comes to Valentine's Day, I'm traditional - red, pink, and white. I think the print size is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI came here to thank you for the marvels I found in my mailbox and I see yet another great print! Wow.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of having just a few elements in green or in any other contrasting colors but I would have 3 instead of 2 and maybe the third could be a heart. I don't think it would be lame at all because the ensemble is so modern...
and now I see that I'm not the only reader to feel like adding a third element ;-)) ( Totally agree with Diana's comment )
Thank you my Friend ~
One more thing...ok maybe 2!
ReplyDeleteI would not have red and pink.
To me it wouldn't be "you" if that makes sense and it would o as well with the modern vibe I get seeing this print. I also think the 5 x 7 format would be great. Okay, I think I'm finished!
Good night!
I love this print! I would suggest perhaps a heart behind the & and 4. Definitely keep them in a different colour to the text. The 5x7 option would be good.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors you have and no hearts I like the 8x10 but would also go with a 5x7. I plan to someday make a wall of these and having a bunch of 5x7's would be better then 8x10's
ReplyDeleteBrown and pink would be soo cute. Plus 5x7 print I think
ReplyDeleteI think it would be great to offer different sizes. Also maybe the text all in one colour. How about changing up the dots on the "i"'s to a heart. Its so cute already though, love it!
ReplyDeleteI like the contrast of the ampersand and the number. I think a heart behind the "4" would be super cute. I think a pink background with blue accent and red heart might be cute for a print that would only be displayed for V-day and then maybe a brown, blue, and orange combo for a print that would stay displayed at all times. I really like the pantone color for 2011-a fab pink!
ReplyDeleteBackground color black. Most words white. Add a heart in red. & and 4 in pink. Or heart and & and 4 in red or pink (the same). I'm just loving the black, white, pink and red these days :)
ReplyDeleteAnd 8x10 is a great size.

I like the contrast and I would even like a heart! Reds, browns and maybe pink with a pop of yellow, or green would be terrific!
ReplyDeleteI think it needs a heart for sure! And red is always good for valentine's day. I like a white background with colorful words. It seems fresh to me! some turquiose in there would be cute too!
ReplyDeleteI like the colors you have it. I do like the & and the 4 the same colors. I think a bright pink heart (or red) would lovely.
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
